Ministry Area Leader

Fr Matthew Gibbon

Father Matthew has been serving Aberaman, Cwmaman and Abercwmboi since 2016. He has built up relationships within these communities and has a keen involvement with St John the Baptist Church in Wales High School (in Aberdare) as Chair of Governors. He is firmly within the Anglo-Catholic tradition and enjoys using social media to promote the life and mission of the Church.

Fr Stuart Ghezzi

Father Stuart joined the team in 2022. His focus lies within the communities of Penrhiwceiber, Matthewstown, Ynysboeth and Abercynon. He has continued to build upon the well-established outreach programmes in these communities and plays a major part in the life of the local schools and wider community. He also ministers to his people through the Anglo-Catholic tradition.

Fr Philip Leyshon

Father Philip grew up in the Rhondda and became a priest in 2004. He was a priest in the Rhondda Ministry Area for many years before moving to the Cynon Valley South MA in 2024. He is a Novice of the Third Order of the Society of St Francis. His focus is on the communities of Cwmbach and Mountain Ash. He is married with two children and in his spare time is a keen bird watcher.

Ministry Area Lay Chairman

Tanya Bennett

Tanya was appointed Lay Chair of the Ministry Area by Bishop June in 2020. She was born and bred in Abercynon and has worshipped at St. Gwynno’s since childhood.. An engineer and business owner, she has 25 years of RVS volunteering. A mother of two, she enjoys road cycling and cooking while supporting her local community.
